Sharp new MRI scans promise clearer diagnosis for swollen optic nerves
NCT ID NCT04448613
First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 19 times
Summary
This study looked at whether advanced high-resolution MRI can help doctors more accurately diagnose the cause of optic disc swelling (a sign of various eye or brain conditions). Researchers tested the new MRI technique on 197 adults with optic disc edema to see if it improved diagnostic confidence. The goal was to make it easier to tell apart conditions like inflammation, high pressure in the skull, or other problems without needing more invasive tests.
