New nerve block could replace spinal needle for hemorrhoid surgery
NCT ID NCT06969274
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a new ultrasound-guided nerve block (sacral erector spinae plane block) can control pain after hemorrhoid removal as well as the standard saddle block. Fifty adults undergoing hemorrhoidectomy will be randomly assigned to one of the two methods. Researchers will measure pain scores and the need for extra pain medication in the first 24 hours after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Ultrasound-guided sacral erector spinae plane block (nerve block procedure)
What this could lead to
If successful, this nerve block could offer a simpler, effective pain management option for hemorrhoid surgery without the need for spinal anesthesia.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The nerve block is a new technique and may not control pain as well as the standard saddle block.
