Wrist-to-Bottom procedure could replace hemorrhoid surgery

NCT ID NCT06175325

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This pilot study tests a procedure called trans-radial superior rectal artery embolisation for treating hemorrhoids. Instead of surgery, doctors access an artery in the wrist to block blood flow to the hemorrhoid, which may reduce bleeding and pain. The study will enroll 20 adults with grade II-IV hemorrhoids and follow them for 24 months to check safety and symptom improvement.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Trans-radial superior rectal artery embolisation (a procedure using tiny particles to block blood flow to hemorrhoids)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a less painful, same-day alternative to surgery for people with bleeding hemorrhoids.

What could go wrong

This is a very small pilot study with only 20 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The procedure is still experimental and long-term safety is not yet known.
