Which surgery monitor saves kidneys best? new trial aims to find out

NCT ID NCT07609680

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two methods of managing blood flow during colorectal surgery: one guided by blood pressure and the other by how much blood the heart pumps. The goal is to see which approach better protects kidney function after surgery. Sixty adults with normal kidney function are being randomly assigned to one of the two methods.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If this trial succeeds, it could show that using cardiac index to guide fluid and medication during surgery better protects kidneys than standard blood pressure monitoring.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 60 patients, so results may not apply to everyone. The difference between the two strategies might be small or not clinically meaningful.
