Scientists probe heat Stroke's hidden trigger

NCT ID NCT07346443

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at how a protein called GPR81, which responds to lactic acid, might play a role in multiple organ failure from heat stroke. Researchers will follow 100 heat stroke patients in the ICU, measuring their lactate levels and survival over 28 days. The goal is to understand the mechanism better, not to test a new treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward new treatment strategies for heat stroke using lactate levels as a guide.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not lead to any direct therapy, and results may not apply to all patients.
