Heartbeat clues may help doctors set oxygen levels better

NCT ID NCT07518862

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether the natural variation in heartbeat timing (heart rate variability) can help doctors decide the right oxygen flow for patients with respiratory failure who are on a high-flow nasal cannula. Researchers will gradually lower the oxygen flow and monitor heart rate and breathing changes in 20 adults. The goal is to see if heart rate variability changes before other signs of breathing trouble, which could lead to better oxygen management.
