Heart pump vs. meds: major trial aims to extend lives in advanced heart failure

Summary
This trial is testing if implanting a mechanical heart pump (HeartMate 3) early can help people with advanced heart failure live longer and have a better quality of life compared to staying on strong medications alone. It will enroll about 850 adults whose heart failure is worsening despite taking the best available drugs. The study uses a special sensor to monitor lung pressure, helping doctors decide who might benefit most from getting the pump.
