Heart enzyme test in elderly surgery patients fails to prove benefit
NCT ID NCT03605134
First seen Nov 18, 2025 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 28 times
Summary
This study looked at whether routinely measuring a heart enzyme (hsTnT) in patients 75 and older having major surgery could predict complications. Researchers tracked enzyme levels and checked if high levels were linked to longer hospital stays or death within 30 days. The study was stopped early with only 63 participants, so no firm conclusions can be drawn.
