Liver cancer trial combines chemo infusion with oil embolization to boost effect
NCT ID NCT06632717
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase 2 trial tests whether adding a temporary oil-based embolization (lipiodol) to standard chemotherapy infusion through the liver artery can shrink tumors better while keeping the liver healthy. The study enrolls 24 adults with advanced liver cancer that cannot be surgically removed. Participants receive cisplatin and fluorouracil chemotherapy every 3 weeks plus lipiodol embolization on day 3 of each cycle, continuing until the disease worsens or side effects become too severe.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- cisplatin and fluorouracil chemotherapy plus lipiodol embolization
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this combination could offer a more effective, liver-friendly treatment option for advanced liver cancer patients who cannot have standard therapies.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase study with only 24 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Chemotherapy and embolization carry risks like liver damage, infection, and toxicity.
