Gut bacteria may decide if cranberry juice stops UTIs

NCT ID NCT05065008

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study investigates why cranberry juice prevents urinary tract infections (UTIs) in some women but not others. Researchers will have 160 healthy women who are prone to UTIs drink cranberry juice or a placebo (apple juice) daily for three weeks. They will measure how well the urine blocks bacteria and compare the gut microbiomes of those who respond versus those who don't.
