Gut bacteria may boost lung cancer therapy
NCT ID NCT04105270
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether taking special gut bacteria capsules (RMT) alongside standard chemotherapy and immunotherapy can help control advanced lung cancer. About 82 people with untreated non-small cell lung cancer will receive either RMT or a placebo. The goal is to see if the bacteria improve how long the cancer stays under control.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Restorative Microbiota Therapy (RMT) capsules
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new way to boost the immune system's response to lung cancer treatment.
What could go wrong
This is an early phase 2 trial with only 82 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Adding gut bacteria to treatment could cause unexpected side effects.
