Gum gel shows promise for faster healing after periodontitis treatment

NCT ID NCT06522438

First seen Feb 05, 2026 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This pilot study tests whether a special gel containing hyaluronic acid and octenidine can improve early healing after non-surgical gum treatment for periodontitis. About 26 adults with advanced gum disease will receive either standard deep cleaning alone or deep cleaning plus the gel. Researchers will measure healing markers, blood flow, and bacteria levels over three months to see if the gel helps gums recover better.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Hyaluronic acid and octenidine gel (Pocket-X®)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a better way to help gums heal after standard deep-cleaning treatment for periodontitis.

What could go wrong

This is a very small pilot study with only 26 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The gel is an add-on, not a standalone cure, and long-term benefits are unknown.
