GP training aims to turn routine visits into health boosts

NCT ID NCT07391462

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether training general practitioners (GPs) in 'healthy conversation skills' can help patients improve their diet, physical activity, and reduce sedentary time. About 882 adults in France whose GPs receive the training will be compared to those whose GPs do not. The goal is to see if a brief, opportunistic chat during a routine visit can motivate real behavior change.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
GP training in healthy conversation skills
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that brief chats with a GP can help people eat better and move more, leading to a simple, low-cost way to improve public health.
What could go wrong
This is a behavioral study, not a drug trial. Results depend on many factors, and even if patients feel more motivated, actual behavior change may be small or short-lived.
