Gout sufferers could soon track uric acid with a simple skin patch
NCT ID NCT06187519
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested a new skin patch system called UR+AIMS that measures uric acid levels in people with gout. Six participants wore the patch for a week and during a standard meal to see if it was comfortable and gave accurate readings. The goal is to help patients better understand how their diet and medications affect their uric acid levels.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Uric Acid and Metabolite Monitor System (UR+AIMS) skin patch
What this could lead to
If it works, this could lead to a simple skin patch that helps people with gout track their uric acid levels in real time, making it easier to manage their condition through diet and medication.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-stage lab validation study with only 6 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The patch might be uncomfortable or inaccurate, and it's not yet proven to improve health outcomes.
