Probiotic supplement shows promise for gout prevention in small study
NCT ID NCT06969469
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This completed study tested whether a probiotic supplement called LUA Probiotics can lower uric acid levels in the blood. Twenty adults with high uric acid or gout who were not taking uric acid-lowering drugs took the supplement daily for 28 days. Researchers measured uric acid and other health markers at the start, after 2 weeks, and after 6 weeks to see if the probiotics made a difference.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
LUA probiotics (Lactobacillus reuteri, beta-carotene, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a dietary supplement to help lower uric acid and reduce gout flare-ups, possibly decreasing the need for medication.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-stage study with only 20 participants. Results may not apply to everyone, and the supplement is not yet proven effective or commercially available.
