Could common diabetes drugs tame Post-Heart attack inflammation?
NCT ID NCT07295223
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study tests whether two diabetes drugs—dapagliflozin and semaglutide—can reduce inflammation after a heart attack. Researchers will enroll 44 people with type 2 diabetes, obesity, and high inflammation levels. Participants will take one of the drugs for 24 weeks, and the study will measure changes in inflammatory markers like hs-CRP and IL-6.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
dapagliflozin and semaglutide
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new way to lower harmful inflammation after a heart attack, potentially reducing long-term complications.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study with only 44 participants, so results may not apply widely. Past trials of similar drugs after heart attack did not meet their main goals.
