Personalized prostate cancer attack: does your Tumor's DNA hold the key?
NCT ID NCT04812366
First seen Jul 31, 2026 · Last updated Aug 14, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether tailoring prostate cancer therapy to the genetic makeup of a person's tumor can improve the response before surgery. Men with high-risk localized prostate cancer receive initial hormone therapy while their tumor is genetically analyzed, then are assigned to a treatment arm—either hormone therapy alone or combined with chemotherapy, a targeted drug, or immunotherapy. The goal is to see if this personalized approach leads to better tumor shrinkage and outcomes after prostate removal.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- A combination of hormone therapy (apalutamide, abiraterone, prednisone), chemotherapy (docetaxel), targeted therapy (niraparib), and immunotherapy (atezolizumab), selected based on tumor genetics.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this approach could lead to more personalized, effective prostate cancer treatment, potentially reducing recurrence after surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-phase trial, so results may not confirm benefit. Side effects from combination therapies could be significant, and not all participants may respond.
