New procedure offers hope for knee pain without surgery
NCT ID NCT07380906
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is tracking 1,200 adults with knee osteoarthritis who have not found relief from standard treatments. They will undergo a procedure called genicular artery embolization, which blocks certain blood vessels to reduce inflammation and pain. Researchers will follow participants for up to 3 years to see if the procedure provides lasting pain relief and improves quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Genicular Artery Embolization (a minimally invasive procedure that blocks blood vessels to reduce knee inflammation and pain)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a new, non-surgical option for long-term knee pain relief in people with osteoarthritis who haven't responded to other treatments.
What could go wrong
This is an observational registry, not a controlled trial, so results may be less definitive. The procedure may not work for everyone, and there are risks like bleeding or infection.
