NCT ID NCT01441089

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study collects blood or cheek swab samples from 1,100 cancer patients at the National Cancer Institute to analyze genetic differences that may influence how their bodies process cancer treatments. The goal is to understand why some patients experience more side effects or less benefit from therapy. Participants must be at least 3 years old and already enrolled in an NIH treatment trial.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this research could help doctors understand why some patients have more side effects or respond differently to cancer treatments, potentially leading to more personalized care.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It will not directly benefit participants and may not yield clear genetic links due to the complexity of cancer genetics.
