Scientists re-engineer Patient's own cells to hunt deadly cancers

This early-phase trial tested a new type of gene therapy for advanced gastrointestinal and other cancers. Researchers collected a patient's own white blood cells, genetically modified them in a lab to recognize and attack cancer cells with a specific mutation called KRAS G12D, and then infused them back into the patient. The main goals were to see if this treatment was safe and if it could cause tumors to shrink in patients whose prior treatments had stopped working.
