New capsule aims to ease IBS-D symptoms without drugs
NCT ID NCT06681012
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether Gelsectan, a capsule made from plant-based ingredients, can reduce abdominal pain and improve stool consistency in people with diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D). About 330 adults will take either Gelsectan or a placebo twice daily for two months. The goal is to see if this device can offer a safe, non-drug way to manage symptoms.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Gelsectan (a medical device containing xyloglucan, pea protein, grape seed extract, and xylo-oligosaccharides)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a new, non-drug option to help manage IBS-D symptoms like abdominal pain and diarrhea, improving quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a mid-stage study, so results may not confirm earlier findings. The effect may be modest, and not everyone will benefit. As a medical device, it is generally considered low-risk.
