Diabetes drug delays stomach emptying: study seeks safe Pre-Surgery break

NCT ID NCT07506356

First seen Apr 03, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study looks at how long people with type 2 diabetes need to stop taking their GLP-1 medication (like semaglutide) before surgery to ensure their stomach is empty. The drug slows stomach emptying, which can raise the risk of food or liquid entering the lungs during anesthesia. Researchers will use ultrasound to measure stomach volume in 38 participants after a 6-hour fast and 7 days after their last injection.
