New study aims to find safe fasting time for diabetics on Weight-Loss drugs before surgery

NCT ID NCT07506356

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at how long people with type 2 diabetes need to stop taking GLP-1 medications (like semaglutide) before surgery to make sure their stomach is empty. These drugs slow down digestion, which can increase the risk of food or liquid entering the lungs during anesthesia. Researchers will use ultrasound to measure stomach volume in 38 participants after a 6-hour fast, 7 days after their last injection. The goal is to find a safe waiting period for surgery.
