Game on: new study uses video game to boost HPV shots in teens
NCT ID NCT05984849
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot study tests whether a health-themed video game can encourage HPV vaccination among underserved youth aged 11-14 who have not yet received the vaccine. About 180 parent-child pairs will play the game and report their vaccination intentions and actual shots. The goal is to see if this fun approach is feasible and can increase vaccine uptake to prevent HPV-related cancers.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
health game to promote HPV vaccination
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a fun, effective way to increase HPV vaccination rates in vulnerable youth, potentially preventing many cancers.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study (180 participants) testing feasibility, not effectiveness. The game may not actually increase vaccination rates, and results may not apply to other groups.
