MRI dye tracked in urine: new study aims to see how fast it clears

NCT ID NCT06191731

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at how quickly gadolinium, a contrast agent used in some MRIs, leaves the body through urine. Researchers will collect urine samples from 60 adults before and up to 2.5 hours after their MRI. The goal is to better understand the body's elimination of this substance.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

gadolinium-based contrast agents

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors understand how quickly the body clears gadolinium after an MRI, which may improve safety guidelines.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early observational study with only 60 participants. It measures urine levels, not health outcomes, so it won't directly change treatment.
