Scientists feed people sugar to unlock Gut's role in diabetes risk

NCT ID NCT06329544

Summary

This study aims to understand how eating a lot of fructose (a common sugar) changes the bacteria in your gut and affects your metabolic health, including liver fat and diabetes risk. Researchers will have 30 adults who poorly absorb fructose follow two different 12-day diets—one high in fructose and one high in glucose—to compare the effects. The goal is to learn the mechanisms so future strategies can be developed to improve health in people who consume high levels of sugar.
