New catheter aims to dissolve dangerous lung clots more precisely

NCT ID NCT07681154

First seen Jul 02, 2026 · Last updated Jul 02, 2026

Summary

This pilot study tests a new catheter device designed to deliver clot-dissolving medication directly to blood clots in the lungs of adults with intermediate-risk pulmonary embolism. The goal is to see if the device can be used safely and as intended. All 20 participants will receive treatment with the study device, and researchers will monitor for serious side effects and successful drug delivery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Flow Medical Catheter (catheter-directed thrombolysis device)

What this could lead to

If successful, this device could offer a safer, more targeted way to dissolve dangerous blood clots in the lungs, potentially reducing complications from standard treatment.

What could go wrong

This is a very small pilot study with only 20 participants and no comparison group, so results may not apply broadly. The procedure carries risks such as bleeding or device-related complications.
