Womb microbes under the microscope: could they hold the key to unexplained infertility?

NCT ID NCT05337072

First seen May 15, 2026 · Last updated Jun 09, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study looks at 1,000 women undergoing IVF to understand how tiny organisms in the womb (the microbiome) may cause chronic endometritis, a condition that can harm fertility. Researchers will collect samples from the vagina and womb to compare the microbes in women with and without this condition. The goal is to find better ways to diagnose and treat chronic endometritis, moving away from the current practice of using broad-spectrum antibiotics.
