New scope technique could simplify cancer monitoring after Kidney-Sparing surgery
NCT ID NCT07557563
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot study will test whether a flexible scope inserted into the urinary tract (ureterorenoscopy) under local anesthesia is safe and feasible for monitoring upper tract urothelial cancer in 10 people who have had kidney-sparing surgery. The main goal is to see if the procedure can be completed successfully, with secondary checks on complications and hospital readmission rates. If it works, it may offer a less invasive way to watch for cancer recurrence.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- flexible ureterorenoscopy (a thin, flexible scope inserted into the urinary tract to look for cancer recurrence)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could offer a less invasive way to monitor for cancer return after kidney-sparing surgery, potentially avoiding more frequent hospital visits or more invasive procedures.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small pilot study with only 10 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The procedure is done under local anesthesia, which may cause discomfort or fail, and there is a risk of complications like infection or injury.
