New hope for Hard-to-Control blood pressure: finerenone shows promise
NCT ID NCT06381323
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tested a drug called finerenone in 55 adults with primary aldosteronism, a condition where the adrenal glands make too much aldosterone, leading to high blood pressure. The goal was to see if finerenone can safely lower blood pressure over 12 weeks. Participants started with a low dose, which could be increased if needed. The main focus was on how much daytime systolic blood pressure dropped.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Finerenone (a mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist)
What this could lead to
If successful, finerenone could offer a new treatment option to control blood pressure in patients with primary aldosteronism.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed phase 4 trial with only 55 participants. Results may not apply to all patients, and finerenone may cause side effects like high potassium or kidney issues.
