New study aims to curb antibiotic overuse for fevers in congo

NCT ID NCT07345286

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This observational study will follow 500 adults and children in the DRC who come to the clinic with a fever. Researchers want to see if using a simple blood test (CRP), a WHO antibiotic guidebook, or electronic decision tools can help doctors prescribe antibiotics more appropriately. The study also tracks what causes the fevers and how patients recover over 21 days.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could show how simple tools like a blood test (CRP) and a guideline book can help doctors in the DRC use antibiotics more wisely for fevers.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It will describe current practices and test tools, but cannot prove they improve outcomes. Results may not apply to other regions.
