Baby's liver size may reveal hidden impact of gestational diabetes
NCT ID NCT07312838
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study will use ultrasound to measure the length and volume of the liver in babies of mothers with gestational diabetes. Researchers want to see if these measurements can serve as early markers of how the mother's blood sugar levels affect the baby. The study will compare 115 pregnant women with and without gestational diabetes, but no treatment or intervention is given.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could give doctors a new way to check how gestational diabetes is affecting the baby during pregnancy.
What could go wrong
This is an early observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not find a clear link, and results may not change current care.
