Fetal cells may hold key to healing chronic wounds
NCT ID NCT06031714
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study looks at fetal cells that remain in a mother's blood after pregnancy, called fetal microchimeric cells, in women with chronic skin ulcers like venous or diabetic ulcers. Researchers will analyze these cells' genetic activity to see if they might help with wound healing. The goal is to gather information that could lead to future treatments, not to test a therapy now.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this research could point toward new treatments for chronic skin ulcers by harnessing fetal cells.
What could go wrong
This is an early observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not lead to any direct therapy, and results may not apply to all patients.
