Could a scan replace surgery for breast cancer staging?

NCT ID NCT05982496

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a special PET/MRI scan can accurately detect if breast cancer has spread to lymph nodes in the armpit, potentially replacing the need for surgical removal of those nodes. About 119 women with certain types of breast cancer (luminal A or lobular) will get the scan before their planned surgery. The goal is to see if the scan is reliable enough to guide treatment decisions without an operation.
