Can early sexual health counseling transform breast cancer recovery?

NCT ID NCT06583460

First seen Aug 13, 2026 · Last updated Aug 14, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This trial asks whether starting sexual health support early and systematically helps women with localized breast cancer feel better about their sexual well-being compared to waiting until they ask for help. Women aged 18 and older who are beginning treatment with surgery will receive either early, structured care from a sexologist and anthropologist or standard on-demand care. The study measures sexual satisfaction using a validated questionnaire to see if proactive support makes a meaningful difference.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Early and systematic oncosexological supportive care, including interviews with an anthropologist and consultations with a sexologist
What this could lead to
If effective, this approach could establish early, structured sexual health support as a standard part of breast cancer care, improving quality of life for many women.
What could go wrong
The trial is small (60 participants) and measures subjective outcomes, so results may not be conclusive or widely applicable. The intervention's benefit over on-demand care remains uncertain.
