Frozen ovarian tissue may help cancer survivors have babies
NCT ID NCT05830929
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study offers young female cancer patients the chance to freeze a piece of their ovary before starting cancer treatment. After they recover, if their ovaries stop working, doctors can thaw and re-implant the tissue to try to restore fertility. The goal is to help these women have children later in life. The study will track surgical safety and pregnancy rates in 100 participants.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Ovarian tissue freezing and re-implantation
What this could lead to
If successful, this procedure could help young female cancer survivors restore their fertility and have biological children after cancer treatment.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage procedure with limited data on pregnancy rates. Surgical complications are possible, and not all patients may regain fertility. The study is small (100 participants) and results may not apply to everyone.
