Could a new iron pill help pregnant women with anemia?

NCT ID NCT07381426

First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated May 11, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study tests whether a different type of iron supplement (ferric citrate) works better and causes fewer side effects than the standard iron pill (ferrous fumarate) for pregnant women with moderate to severe iron deficiency anemia. About 680 pregnant women in Bangladesh will take one of the two supplements for 8 to 12 weeks. The goal is to see if ferric citrate improves hemoglobin levels more effectively and reduces anemia-related complications for both mothers and babies.
