New scan could spot cancer spread sooner, boosting survival

NCT ID NCT06877949

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two types of scans—FDG-PET/CT and standard CT—to see which one better tracks breast cancer that has spread. Researchers want to know if the newer scan can find cancer growth earlier, helping doctors start new treatments sooner and potentially extend patients' lives. About 420 adults with newly diagnosed metastatic breast cancer will be randomly assigned to one scan type and followed over time.
