Can intensive Play-Based therapy help kids with brain injuries move better?
NCT ID NCT03325946
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at how well a special intensive therapy called ACQUIRE Therapy works for children with motor problems caused by conditions like cerebral palsy, autism, or brain injury. The therapy involves many hours of play-based exercises each day, often with a cast or splint on the stronger arm to encourage use of the weaker one. Researchers will analyze data from up to 500 children who have already gone through the program at the FBRI VTC Neuromotor Research Clinic.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ACQUIRE Therapy (intensive behavioral therapy with constraint and shaping)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a proven intensive therapy program to improve motor skills in children with neuromotor impairments.
What could go wrong
This is an observational analysis of existing clinical data, not a controlled trial. Results may not apply to all children, and the therapy requires many hours per day, which may not be feasible for every family.
