Scientists infuse fats to unlock secrets of insulin resistance

NCT ID NCT03818178

First seen Jan 12, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study looks at how different types of fat affect how muscles respond to insulin. Healthy adults will receive infusions of palm oil or a fat emulsion through a tube into the small intestine overnight. Researchers will then take muscle samples to see how the fats are processed and how they affect insulin signaling. The goal is to understand the basic mechanisms behind insulin resistance, not to test a treatment.
