Could your own fat heal burn scars better than needles or surgery?
NCT ID NCT07186322
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether taking a person's own fat and injecting it into burn scars on the arms can improve scar appearance and movement better than standard treatments like steroid shots or surgery. Forty adults with burn scars will be randomly assigned to fat grafting or usual care and followed for 6 months. The goal is to see if this natural approach reduces scarring and helps patients move better.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
autologous fat grafting
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a more effective and less painful way to improve scar quality and movement in burn survivors.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Fat grafting also carries risks like infection or fat necrosis.
