First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 10, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a short-term, low-calorie plant-based diet (called a fasting mimicking diet) could help reduce depressive symptoms in people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). 42 adults with mild-to-moderate depression and IBD completed three 5-day diet cycles. Researchers measured changes in mood, gut bacteria, and immune function to see if this diet could be a safe way to improve mental health.
