First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This study looked at whether a short-term, plant-based low-calorie diet (called a fasting mimicking diet) could improve depressive symptoms in people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). 42 adults with IBD and mild-to-moderate depression completed three 5-day diet cycles. Researchers measured changes in mood, gut microbes, and immune function to see if this diet could be a safe way to boost mental health.
