New MRI technique could slash stroke scan time

NCT ID NCT07199920

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This pilot study tests a new, faster MRI technique called Magnetic Resonance Fingerprinting (MRF) for people who have had an ischemic stroke. Standard MRI scans take 20-25 minutes, but for stroke, every minute matters. The study will enroll 10 adults with subacute stroke to see if MRF can produce clear, usable images in less time. If successful, this could speed up diagnosis and treatment, potentially improving outcomes.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Magnetic Resonance Fingerprinting (MRF) sequence on a 3T Philips MRI scanner

What this could lead to

If this works, it could pave the way for faster, more informative MRI scans for stroke patients, potentially reducing treatment delays and improving recovery.

What could go wrong

This is a very small pilot study with only 10 participants. The new MRI technique may not produce clear enough images or may not be faster in practice. Success is not guaranteed.
