First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study tested whether having families keep a hospital diary during their child's stay in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) could reduce anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress after discharge. Researchers followed 431 families in four Brazilian PICUs, checking their mental health and satisfaction with care at discharge and 60 days later. The goal was to see if this simple tool improves emotional outcomes for both families and children.
