Eye movements may reveal hidden brain fog after ICU

NCT ID NCT07676864

First seen Jun 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

Some people have memory, attention, or thinking speed issues after leaving the ICU. This study explores whether a simple eye-tracking test can help identify these problems early. Adult patients who recently left the ICU will take a cognitive test and an eye-tracking test. The goal is to see if eye movement patterns can flag cognitive impairment, so doctors can offer follow-up care sooner.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If eye-tracking proves useful, it could give doctors a quick, non-invasive way to detect cognitive issues early after ICU discharge.

What could go wrong

This is a small observational study, not a treatment trial. Eye-tracking may not reliably identify cognitive problems, and results may not apply to all ICU survivors.
