Low-Dose blood thinner may keep dangerous clots at bay
NCT ID NCT04168203
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 29 times
Summary
This study tested whether a low dose of the blood thinner apixaban (2.5 mg twice daily) can safely prevent blood clots from coming back in people who already had a clot triggered by a temporary risk factor (like surgery or injury) but still have ongoing risks (like obesity or limited mobility). About 600 adults took either the low-dose apixaban or a placebo for 12 months. The goal was to see if the low dose reduces the chance of another clot without causing serious bleeding.
