Walk away from memory loss: exercise trial for kidney patients
NCT ID NCT07160959
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a simple home exercise program can prevent memory and thinking problems from getting worse in people with advanced chronic kidney disease (stages 4-5). 124 participants will either do low-intensity walking and strength exercises or receive standard care. The goal is to find an easy, drug-free way to protect brain health.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- home-based low-intensity interval exercise program (walking and strength training)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to protect brain function in people with advanced kidney disease.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial (124 people) testing a behavioral intervention, so results may not be generalizable. Exercise adherence at home may be low, and cognitive benefits are uncertain.
