First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looked at whether a supervised exercise program done twice a week for 12 months could improve physical health and mental well-being in women aged 60 and older. 108 women took part, with half doing the exercise program and the other half continuing their usual activities. The program included strength, balance, and aerobic exercises. Researchers measured waist size, walking speed, leg strength, and feelings of motivation and well-being.

What this could lead to
If successful, this program could offer a simple, non-drug way to help older women stay fit, mobile, and mentally well.
What could go wrong
This is a completed trial with 108 participants, so results are limited in scope. The program requires twice-weekly attendance for a year, which may not be practical for everyone.
