Exercise as medicine: can a 12-week program reverse muscle loss in breast cancer survivors?
NCT ID NCT07732101
First seen Jul 28, 2026 · Last updated Jul 29, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether a 12-week structured exercise program, called "Exercise for Muscle Health," can improve muscle mass, strength, and physical function in breast cancer survivors who have sarcopenia—a condition of muscle loss and weakness. About 104 women who have finished primary breast cancer treatment and meet sarcopenia criteria will be randomly assigned to either the exercise program plus health education or routine care with general activity advice. The study measures changes in muscle mass, grip strength, physical performance, and quality of life over several months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- a 12-week structured exercise program called "Exercise for Muscle Health" combined with health education
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could provide an evidence-based exercise program to help breast cancer survivors regain muscle and improve quality of life.
- What could go wrong
- This is a relatively small trial (104 participants) testing a new program, so results may not apply to all survivors. Exercise programs require adherence, and benefits may vary.
