Exercise may boost protein efficiency in older diabetics
NCT ID NCT07477067
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at how a 12-week exercise program affects the way older adults (over 65) with type 2 diabetes use protein from their diet. Thirty participants will do moderate-to-vigorous aerobic and strength training, and researchers will measure changes in protein balance, gut health, and fitness. The goal is to understand if exercise can improve muscle health and metabolism in this group.

What this could lead to
If successful, this study could show that exercise helps older adults with type 2 diabetes use protein more efficiently, potentially guiding better diet and exercise recommendations.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The findings are observational and may not lead to immediate treatments.
