First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a goals-based exercise program designed with input from the Black community to help adults aged 45-65 exercise more. Participants will be randomly assigned to different goal-setting and exercise intensity groups. The study tracks activity levels, blood pressure, sleep, and biomarkers of cognitive aging over 12 months to see if the program improves health and slows cognitive decline.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Goal-setting and exercise intensity program
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this program could help Black adults exercise more, potentially reducing risks of heart disease, diabetes, and cognitive decline.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage behavioral study with 226 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Exercise adherence can be challenging, and the program may not work for everyone.
